As you know, we recently sold our home. I just wanted to let you know how pleased we were with the house and how well it withstood eight years of use.

First of all, we were very impressed with the quality of the construction and the attention that you paid to all of the subcontractors and to the materials used. It was clear to us that you really cared about building a quality product. As you know, I brought several people knowledgeable in the construction business by to see the house as it was being built, and they all agreed that the construction was topnotch. Additionally, we were very impressed that you delivered the house within one week of the time that you had estimated. When we moved in, there were a few minor items that needed attention, and we were pleased that all of them were taken care of quickly.

During the time we lived there, we were very happy with the way the house held up, and were pleased that we did not find any “surprises” along the way. We were especially impressed with the construction, given the fact that we moved in four days before the Whittier quake, the first of a long series of quakes. Minor, nonstructural cracks were sustained, but these were quickly and inexpensively repaired. In fact, because the first quake occurred so soon after our moving in, you had your subcontractor do the repairs at no charge.

Finally, during the period of approximately two months in which we offered the house for sale, we received many, many compliments on the beauty of the house and the quality of the finishes. The majority of the people could not believe the house was eight years old. These were people that were looking at similar, and in most cases, larger, homes in the area, most of which were of new or more recent construction.

In conclusion, Jim, we did quite a bit of research into Arcadia homebuilders prior to selecting you to construct our home, and our experience proved that we made a wise selection. Thank you very much.

This is a letter of recommendation for Jim Romani who built the residence we have been living in for a year. My husband and I had never wanted to build our own house – we were just too busy doing other things – so we entered this process rather reluctantly.

We built to accommodate my 89 years old mother who was immigrating from Hong Kong. With just some vague ideas of the type of space we would need, we started to look for a builder. We were very fortunate to find Jim Romani, who had a house in Arcadia for sale at the time. We liked both the style and quality; the references also were very enthusiastic in recommending him. However, we were hearing lots of horror stories about the building process – about how stressful it could be on the marriage, how things could go wrong, etc., so we proceeded with a lot of fear; expecting tons of headaches along the way. This story has a very happy ending, it was unbelievably smooth sailing – I suppose there were points of tensions – but on the whole, people around us were amazed that it was so easy for us. The whole process, from design to landscaping was done within a year.

Looking back, I thought it was because Jim had a great team of subcontractors working with him and most of the decisions were made for us. Then I realized this was true only up to a certain extent, along the way I actually had made a lot of choices. It was ‘painless’ because he was there all the time to guide us along.

We love this house. My mom and all our relatives only have positive comments to make about it. Yet, it is not only the finished product we are proud of; we are pleased to have found a responsible, honest builder and we do enjoy the relationship.

We are delighted to provide a very strong recommendation for Jim Romani. The things that have stood out for us in our relationship with Jim are his integrity, his diligence in completing the job and the quality of his work.

We contracted with Jim in December of 2003 to demolish our existing home and build a completely new home. We worked with Jim on a cost-plus basis, with Jim providing estimate bids of thirty-plus categories of budget items prior to construction. I mention the type of contract because Jim is scrupulously honest in working with his subcontractors to obtain a fair price. If a subcontractor completed his work for less than the budget estimate, that savings was recognized. If a subcontractor made a mistake, Jim made sure that we were not charged for corrections. Fortunately, the mistakes were relatively few. It was clear from our interaction with Jim’s subcontractors that he has worked with the majority of them for a number of years.

We were also very happy about the fact that Jim kept the job moving. We moved into the house in mid-January of this year, meaning that construction took approximately one year. Our new home has approximately 5000 square feet of covered space, and required the complete re-grading of the lot, the addition of about 500 tons of dirt and the removal of an existing swimming pool. In light of the extraordinary rains that we experienced near the end of construction, we were pleased with the length of the project. Jim had someone on site almost every work day over the course of the project. There was very little dead time.

Finally, the quality of Jim’s work is excellent. Jim is very experienced and it shows in various construction techniques that he routinely uses, such as plywood for the roof that contains an under coating to reduce heat and the sub floor he creates within the slab foundation for wood floors. The punch list items that we noticed after we moved into the house numbered less than two dozen. Jim responded to all of those items promptly.

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Jim Romani, General Contractor in Arcadia, California who built our most recent residence.

This was the third residence we have built, and was by far the most complicated and expensive home we have ever undertaken, over 5,000 square feet and costing more than 1.5 million exclusive of property.

Because of these reasons we searched long and hard for a reputable contractor. Mr. Romani was brought to our attention by the loan department of Citizens Business Bank where I served as a director for some 25 years, because of his consistent record of customer satisfaction, and his performance record with sub-contractors.

Our home was built in an exemplary manner, and everyone who sees it remarks about the quality of the construction. The home was completed on time and within tolerable limits of budget in spite of the complexity of the project. Of greater importance to me was the fact that our architect for all practical purposes abandoned us after the project was started, and Mr. Romani, undeterred assumed responsibility to see the construction through to completion. For the record it should be made known that four well-known contractors in our general area refused to bid on the home after reviewing plans and specifications, and price was not a mitigating factor.

These are but a few of the reasons, I could recommend Jim Romani to anyone who has a desire to build a home of high quality and to engage a builder who stands behind his work regardless of unanticipated events during and after construction is completed.

You provided many details and features we did not expect and which were not in the plans, including the impressive coved ceiling in the master bedroom, the crown moldings in all the rooms, the double crown moldings in the formal areas and the “Mr. Steam” in the master shower. During the construction, we spoke with many of your subcontractors and observed your close working relationship with them. They all told us how much they respect you and enjoy working with you, even though you insist that they redo any work which isn’t perfect.

We also were very pleased with your professionalism and responsiveness. Without exception, you promptly returned our telephone calls and immediately addressed any issues or concerns we raised. In fact, when we gave you the list of the very few items which needed to be done after our move in, we discovered you had all those items and more on your “pick up” list, and had already arranged to have them all taken care of. Your close and careful supervision of every aspect of the construction made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable for us.

We are so pleased with and proud of our Romani masterpiece. We are happy to serve as references for you and to allow any of your future potential clients to visit our house to see the high quality of your work. If we ever build another house, you are the only builder we would hire.

Not only is the quality of his work superior, but his quick response to any inquiry or problem along with his patience and understanding with some of our smallest requests was outstanding. It seemed as if sometimes we had hardly put the phone down, before he was returning a call. His choices of sub-contractors were excellent, and if ever there was a problem with one of them, they were replaced quickly.

His attention to detail and his willingness to correct or replace anything less than perfect was much appreciated.
